In 1961, in the province of Como, more precisely in Arosio, a completely automated furniture company was founded, equipped with the most advanced machinery for the time, destined to be a great success within a few decades, both in Italy, both abroad.
The founder, Luigi Sormani, who was just 29 years old in 61, became passionate about new materials, such as imported Brazilian rosewood and, subsequently, plastic and extruded aluminum..
Towards the end of the Sixties, Sormani expands and reaches the American and Japanese markets. Meanwhile, he starts a series of important collaborations with Italian designers, including Joe Colombo, Gio Ponti, Carlo De Carli, Claudio Salocchi, Cesare Casati, Emanuele Ponzio, Nani Prina, Antonello Mosca, Fabrizio Cocchia, Gianni Songia, De Pas, D’Urbino , & Lomazzi, Studio ARDITI, Studio ABC (Achilli, Brigidini, Canella); and with foreigners Richard Neagle and Pierre Cardin.
His objects are now housed in the collections of many museums around the world, including the MoMA in New York, and the National Museum of Modern Art in Kyoto.
