Ceramic vases from the “Vulcani” series by Franco Bresciani

«Io» disse ancora «possiedo una rosa che innaffio tutti i giorni. Possiedo tre VULCANI che pulisco tutte le settimane. Perché pulisco anche quello spento. Non si sa mai. Il fatto che io li possieda è utile ai miei vulcani ed è utile alla mia rosa. Invece tu non sei utile alle stelle…

Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, Il piccolo principe, 1943

This volcano-shaped vase was born thanks to the collaboration between the designer Franco Bresciani and the historic ceramic firm Gabbianelli.

The company, in 1939, was nothing more than a small artisan workshop of decorated tiles in Milan. Only in the 1950s, thanks to the collaboration with important ceramists, architects and designers, such as Giò Ponti, Lucio Fontana, Enzo Pedra, Sergio Asti and Sergio Favre, did it begin to grow.

It was in the 1960s that he also started the production of artistic ceramics: objects for everyday life and small sculptures, which enter the collections of the most important international museums of modern art. This is how objects are born that have contributed to making the history of ceramic design, among them the “Elementary Series” (1968) by Enzo Mari, or the “Tuttotondo” series (1982) by Bruno Munari.

2000 is the year of birth of the Altaeco group, of which Gabbianelli is part with the Bardelli, Appiani and Vogue ceramics, and in which the soul, values and sensitivity of the historic brand continue to live.
